A German Christian Missionary Dr Hermann Frederick Moegling in Mangalore started the first newspaper of Karnataka, MangalooraSamachara (1843) ushering in the way for Journalism in Karnataka. Sr Celine Vas has visited various types of resource persons from different sections of the community such as editors of periodicals, journalists, press managers, printers, literary persons and writers to collect primary data. The study period is divided into phases, i.e., from the beginning of printing in Karnataka (1810-1900), 1900- 1947, and 1947-2000.​
