This book was written about forty years ago, the time that the new code of Canon Law was promulgated. He begins with three introductory chapters that situate the vows in their context. There is first the meaning of consecrated life spelt out and next, how the vowed life ought to be integral to it. Author then picks up the prophets as the mirror that will enlighten our own quest into the meaning of the vowed life. The next three chapters on Chastity, Poverty and Obedience look into aspects of these vows as they relate first to the life of Jesus himself even as the vows open us to a life of inner maturity that truly increases our capacity to love others as Christ has loved us. Community life thus becomes important, an aspect that cannot be trivialized today. The fact that this book was sold out a number of times and the demand for it is not waning, we felt it was fulfilling a genuine need of catechesis in the lives of young formandi. This is a book that speaks to our times as well.
