This book is the outcome of a National Seminar, titled “The Synod of Diamper -A Prelude to Indian Renaissance. It presents a collection of the papers presented and speeches delivered at the Seminar. Raja Ram Mohan Roy is considered to be the father of Indian renaissance. This study proves true the fact that even before two hundred years of the birth of the father of Indian Renaissance, in 1599, the Synod of Diamper paved the seeds for the Renaissance in this great sub-continent and it was a historical privilege of the Catholic missionaries who happened to took the leadership for that unique venture of ever lasting value. This book will surely enlighten all those enthusiastic minds to reformulate their idea about the everlasting reformative value of the Synod of Diamper which sowed the seeds of renaissance in India in the sixteenth century.
