“You are witnesses of these things” (Lk 24:48). “You shall be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). Sending the disciples as witnesses is, for Luke, the conclusion of the Gospel, of what Jesus said and did. It is also the beginning of Acts, of what the Church is called to do. As a conclusion and as an introduction, the theme of witness is the focus of the Lukan double work. But what does it mean to witness? This is what the book of Sr Sophia Paul intends to set forth by answering the basic questions – Who are the witnesses? What do they witness to? How do they witness? When and Where do they witness? The book shows that witness can be visual and trans-visual. The book has the careful analysis of the relevant texts of the Acts of the Apostles which helps us better to understand our role as “witnesses to the ends of the earth.”
